Liz Hynes Therapy
Meet Liz...
Over the past 26 years, both my personal life and my professional development have shaped the way I work as a counsellor. My own family experiences — including disability, loss, addiction, sexuality, neurodiversity, hardship and trauma — have deepened my understanding of the challenges people face and strengthened my commitment to supporting others with empathy and respect.
I offer a calm, confident, and steady presence, creating a safe space where you can explore your experiences and emotions at your own pace. My aim is to help you reconnect with your inner resources, develop emotional regulation, and move toward a more fulfilling and grounded life.
With nearly 30 years’ experience as a counsellor, supervisor, and trainer, I have worked across the NHS, blue light services, and the third sector. I now run a private practice and provide counselling through employee assistance programmes, supporting individuals who access therapy via their workplace. I also teach counselling at a local college, helping to train the next generation of practitioners — work I find deeply meaningful and rewarding.
I hold an MA in the Person-Centred Approach, a therapeutic model rooted in acceptance, empathic understanding, and congruence. This means I bring genuine engagement, authenticity, and a non‑judgemental attitude to our work together. In addition, I have further training in couples counselling, clinical supervision, trauma‑informed therapy (including EMDR), solution‑focused approaches, and adult education. My practice is now integrative, allowing me to tailor therapy to the unique needs of each individual.
Helping find the best you again
"When I work with individuals, I meet you as a unique and whole person who is struggling in some way, to live a content and joyful life. Not someone with an issue or label to be fixed."
Counselling
I truly experience counselling at its best, and believe anyone taking part will gain the most from in-person sessions, and this is always my preference and recommendation. However, I understand that this is sometimes, for many reasons, not possible or preferable. Therefore, I also offer online and telephone counselling with appointments available 7 days a week.
My practice is based in Warrington.
I offer a flexible approach to sessions including some evenings and weekend appointments. I also offer an initial 30-minute introduction session to see if you feel comfortable to work with me. It is really important that your counsellor is a good match, and that you feel comfortable.
You will decide the frequency of our meetings. We will discuss how you wish to work, and some boundaries in the first session, in order to ensure you feel safe, including how and when to contact each other.
You choose your preferred session style
One-to-One
I believe that understanding ourselves and the people around us can be the key to lasting change. Much of my work focuses on helping clients to make sense of their life experiences, the patterns they develop to cope and how these influence their relationships today.
Couples
I understand that addressing concerns about your relationship can be scary, and that one of you may be more open to this than the other. I will help you both to find a way to identify & share your concerns and to be heard by the other. I will support you to communicate effectively, and to build on strengths. Couples counselling does take commitment and may involve some homework, such as exercises to build trust, or to make small changes to your routine.

"Counselling can help to strengthen a relationship, or sometimes to support couples to move on independently if this is the best option."
Supervision
I offer 1/1 and group supervision to both qualified and trainee counsellors, and those in related professions. My approach is Person-Centred/Experiential and collaborative. I try to offer what I value most in my own supervision, which is a safe space to celebrate and challenge myself in the presence of another. I offer my full engagement and transparency to help you to maintain safe, ethical and beneficial practice.

EMDR
- Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
What it is...
This type of therapy is designed to stop the distress of past events. This distress might present as flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, hypervigilance or just feeling very overwhelmed. The symptoms may be triggered by sights, sounds, thoughts and feelings.
How it works...
The therapy is designed to change how these memories are stored in the brain, making them less powerful. You should, over time experience a reduction in anxiety & stress associated with trauma.
Who it's for...
EMDR is an adaptive therapy which yields excellent results with many types of trauma and mental health issues. It is recommended for people experiencing PTSD, phobias & fears, anxiety, low self-esteem and depression.
